Dermaplaning can help reduce the appearance of acne scars or other skin imperfections by revealing newer, undamaged skin. It can make your skin look younger though, it doesn’t stop the aging process. Some people also get dermaplaning for temporary fine hair removal. Results can last up to a 4 weeks.
You may consider dermaplaning if you have skin concerns such as:
- Acne scars
- Dull or dry skin
- Peach fuzz (light, soft hair on your face)
What happens during dermaplaning:
You might feel a scratching or stinging sensation on your skin, but dermaplaning usually isn’t painful. We use a special instrument called a carbon steel sterile scalpel (blade). The blade moves back and forth across your skin gently shaving off the top dead layers of skin and fine hair. Afterward, a post treatment cream and sunscreen is applied to your skin to reduce redness, swelling or irritation. The treatment can last anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour. The length of the procedure depends on the size of the area that needs treatment.
Dermaplaning & Facial Combo:
We recommend our dermaplaning & facial combo to help sooth your skin after the treatment. We are partnered with a facial professional to provide relaxing facials post dermaplaning.
Before Dermaplaning:
• Avoid the sun both 3 days before and 3 days after treatment
• Recently tanned skin cannot be treated. Treatment within 2 weeks of active tanning (natural sunlight, artificial tanning booth, or sunless tanning products) may result in hypopigmentation (white spots) or hyperpigmentation (dark spots)
• Discontinue the use of topical medications and products that may be irritating to the skin 2 weeks before treatment. •Discontinue use of all Retin-A, retinoids, tretinoin, alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, exfoliating creams, lotions or treatments, skin lighteners, or topical acne products 5-7 days before your treatment.
• Keep skin hydrated
• Protect your skin by using sunscreen.
• Avoid waxing two weeks before treatment.
• Avoid other skin procedures for two weeks before your dermaplaning treatment.
• If you have an active cold sore, (perioral herpes simplex virus), please reschedule your appointment.
• Due to the body’s inflammatory response to COVID-19 and other viruses, we ask that you postpone your procedure for 2 weeks after being symptom-free. This helps minimize post-procedure inflammatory responses your body may experience.

• Avoid direct sun exposure for up to three days.
• Avoid extreme heat like a sauna or hot tub for three days
. • Do not exfoliate or scrub the skin for up to one week,
