Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure to treat both uncomplicated spider veins and reticular veins. Asclera® (polidocanol) injections are an FDA approved prescription medication used to treat unwanted uncomplicated veins.
About the treatment:
The procedure takes about 60 minutes per session. It is common for patients to have several sessions for effective treatment. However, many patients will see a significant improvement in the appearance of treated spider veins after only one session. Sessions are 6 weeks apart.
How it works
Asclera® causes the lining of the blood vessels to gently swell, blocking the flow of blood to visible spider veins, which then destroys the veins so that they naturally disintegrate and then disappear.
Does it hurt?
The procedure require a series of injections. Most patients experience only mild temporary discomfort during the injection itself. Following treatment, it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise, sun exposure, hot tubs and plane flights for several days. It is advised to wear support hose or compression stockings for 5 days to maximize your results.
